• note. Claude Joseph was the founder of the Favrot family in Louisiana.

Louise-Elizabeth was the 18 year-old daughter of Philippe-Antoine Brusle (b. __, d. December 16, 1738) and Martha Fremont (b. __, d. 1767, Quebec). Philippe-Antoine was an agent for the Company of the Indies, as member of the Superior Council, and one of the wealthiest citizens of New Orleans. One of the 12 witnesses to their marriage contract was Bienville, the "father of Louisiana." Louise's father, Phillipe Antoine Brusle, or her grandfather, Nicholas Brusle, landed on Dauphine Island with Bienville, and Louise was born shortly thereafter.

Claude Joseph came to Louisiana from France in 1732, and for 30 years served in the French Colonial army. He was the first of the family in America. He rose to the rank of Captain. He accompanied Bienville in his expedition against the Chickasaw Indians, and was wounded. He served as commandant at Pointe Coupee (1734-38, 1742-44) and at Balize, Baton Rouge, Mobile and Natchez. Upon Claude Joseph= s retirement from the French military, Louis XV conferred on him the coveted Cross of St. Louis, making him a Chevalier de St. Louis (a French knight). A copy of the decree signed by Louis XV is in a known individuals files. He returned to Paris in April, 1767 to get medical care for his wife, who was suffering from cancer. She died on the street in Paris and is buried at the Cemetery of Saint Innocents. Claude-Joseph remained in Paris, and in 1771 married Mme Goulet, a widow some 30 years younger than he. They quarreled bitterly and separated. He moved to the Convent and Charity Hospital of Senlis, where he lived until his death. He had lost the life's savings he had accumulated in Louisiana in the 1772 shipwreck of the Marie-Therese, and died in poverty and was buried in the vault of the hospital.

Claude married Dame Louise Elizabeth Bruslé, daughter of Philipe Antoine Bruslé and Marthe Fremont, on 7 Oct 1735 in New Orleans, LA. (Dame Louise Elizabeth Bruslé was born on 24 Aug 1717 in Mobile, AL and died on 13 Apr 1768 in Paris, France.)
